Frequently Asked Questions
How do I install the extension?
Visit the Chrome Web Store listing, click "Add to Chrome", and confirm the permissions. The extension icon will appear in your toolbar immediately.
Where is my data stored?
All data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's Storage API. Nothing is sent to external servers. See our privacy policy for full details.
How do I set up file routing rules?
Click the extension icon, go to Settings, and scroll to the Rules section. You can create rules based on file type, source website, or filename patterns to automatically move files to specific folders.
Why aren't source labels showing for my downloads?
Source tracking works automatically for most websites. For email attachments (Gmail, Outlook), the extension captures sender info when you download directly from the email interface. Downloads started from other tabs may show the tab URL as the source.
How do I clear my inbox?
Open the extension popup and click "Clear inbox" at the bottom. This removes items from the inbox view — it does not delete the actual files from your computer.
Does it work on other browsers?
Yes. Download Inbox works on any Chromium-based browser — Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, and Vivaldi.
What's included in Pro?
Pro unlocks auto-routing files to folders, unlimited custom rules, bulk rename, CSV & JSON export, unlimited history, and priority support. You can upgrade from the Settings page in the extension.
How do I uninstall?
Right-click the extension icon in your toolbar and select "Remove from Chrome". All locally stored data will be deleted automatically.
