Privacy Policy

Overview

Download Inbox is a Chrome extension that organizes your browser downloads locally on your device. Your privacy is fundamental to how we built this extension — we do not collect, transmit, or sell your personal data.

Data We Collect

We do not collect any personal data. All download metadata (filenames, tags, source URLs, rules) is stored locally in your browser using the Chrome Storage API. This data never leaves your device.

Browser Permissions

The extension requests the following permissions, each used strictly for its stated purpose:

  • downloads — To detect, organize, and rename your downloads.
  • tabs — To identify which website a download originated from (source tracking).
  • storage — To save your inbox items, settings, and rules locally in your browser.
  • notifications — To alert you about duplicate files or completed file routing.
  • alarms — To schedule periodic cleanup and badge count updates.
  • management — To detect extension updates and ensure smooth operation.

Content Scripts

The extension runs a lightweight content script on Gmail and Outlook to capture the sender or subject line when you download an email attachment. This information is used solely to suggest a better filename and is stored locally — it is never transmitted externally.

Third-Party Services

The extension uses ExtensionPay to process payments for the premium version. ExtensionPay handles payment transactions through Stripe. We do not have access to your payment card details. You can review ExtensionPay's privacy policy at extensionpay.com/privacy.

No other third-party services, analytics, or tracking tools are used.

Data Storage & Retention

All data is stored locally using chrome.storage.local. You can clear all extension data at any time by:

  • Using the "Clear inbox" button in the extension
  • Uninstalling the extension (all data is deleted automatically)
  • Clearing browser data in Chrome settings

Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or transfer your data to any third party. Period.

Children's Privacy

Download Inbox does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
